Barriers to sustainable food consumption and production in China: A fuzzy DEMATEL analysis from a circular economy perspective

The global agri-food sector is in a dire need of transitioning into sustainable consumption and production patterns. circular economy concept offers viable pathway to improve resource efficiency recover value from food loss waste. Although China has made strategic component its national development strategy, it faced multiple barriers which persisted the full-scale implementation production. We aimed empirically investigate these barriers, based on data three key stakeholder groups supply chains: processors, sales distribution firms, consumers. quantified cause-and-effect relationships among by fuzzy decision making-trial evaluation laboratory analysis (Fuzzy DEMATEL) technique. All identify weak enforcement environmental regulations lack education accountability as cause China. Our results suggest that policy level changes include enhanced regulatory attention, new educational initiatives will be required Managers should focus waste separation gaining economies scale. Together, help promote for paradigm shift chain system.
